Ear Surgery and Grommets

Cochlear and Hearing Implants
Dr Reddy performs cochlear implants, bone-anchored hearing implants and active middle ear implants for adults and children, and has worked with all major implant manufacturers. He works with the Shepherd Centre for newborns with hearing loss, and can operate under local anaesthesia for adults when a general anaesthetic is unsafe. Learn about cochlear implants

Cochlear implants
For adults and children with hearing loss that hearing aids no longer help enough. Learn who may be suitable (the Australian 60/70 referral rule), what surgery involves and what to expect at switch-on. Available in public or private hospitals, with known-gap options for private patients.
Grommets (ear tubes)
Grommets, also called tympanostomy or ventilation tubes, treat glue ear and recurrent ear infections in children. Insertion is a short day-stay procedure, and most children go home within a few hours.
Paediatric adenotonsillectomy
Removing the tonsils and adenoids is a first-line treatment for children with obstructive sleep apnoea or persistent snoring and enlarged tonsils, and for recurrent tonsillitis.

Acoustic neuroma (vestibular schwannoma)
A benign tumour of the balance nerve that can cause one-sided hearing loss, tinnitus or imbalance. Options include MRI monitoring, focused radiation treatment or surgery, planned with neurosurgical colleagues.
Cholesteatoma
A skin cyst in the middle ear that causes smelly discharge and hearing loss. Treated with surgery, including endoscopic (keyhole) ear surgery.
Perforated eardrum repair
A hole in the eardrum can cause discharge and hearing loss. Tympanoplasty repairs it, often through the ear canal with no cut behind the ear.
Otosclerosis and stapes surgery
Fixation of the stapes bone causes gradual hearing loss. CO2 laser stapedotomy can restore hearing without a hearing aid.
Bone conduction and middle ear implants
Osia 300, BONEBRIDGE and middle ear implants for conductive and mixed hearing loss, discharging ears and single-sided deafness.
Children’s snoring and sleep apnoea
Loud snoring, pauses in breathing and restless sleep in children. Assessment and treatment options, including adenotonsillectomy.
Chronic sinusitis and sinus surgery
Blocked nose, discharge and loss of smell lasting over 12 weeks. Medical treatment, biologics for polyps and endoscopic sinus surgery.

Paediatric ENT and adenotonsillectomy
Dr Reddy looks after children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers, and is appointed at Sydney Children’s Hospital. He regularly manages tonsil infections, snoring, sleep-disordered breathing and obstructive sleep apnoea, nasal obstruction and allergy, noisy breathing (laryngomalacia), glue ear, and speech and swallowing concerns. He performs paediatric adenotonsillectomy (removal of the tonsils and adenoids) and grommet insertion as day-stay or short-stay procedures.
Adult ENT conditions
Dr Reddy also manages conditions affecting the nose and throat. This includes allergic nasal conditions, blocked nose, sinusitis, obstructive sleep apnoea, tonsillitis, tonsil stones, bad breath, voice complaints, parotid tumours and cancers of the head and neck.
